Exodus 1947~70th Annivesary Memorial Ceremony

Picture "Apples of Gold" © Jerusalem Vistas/Israel Vision
Remembrance of key events in the modern history of Israel is a powerful way to preserve their significance.

In 1947 the Jewish Underground came into possession of an old steam boat which they refitted with the hope of breaking the blockade the British had erected around Mandated Palestine. On board were 4,500 sick and battered Holocaust survivors.

In June 1947 the "Exodus" was intercepted and rammed on both sides of it’s hull by British battle ships. When they could not sink the boat they boarded with rifles and clubs to battle the unarmed refugees. In the end, three were killed and more than one hundred and fifty were injured.

The sick, and injured were removed from the Exodus in Haifa’s port and shipped off to camps in Cyprus. The British sent the rest to Hamburg, Germany, where they were put back into the concentration camps they had fled. Many died in the process. The British have never apologized. It was a tragic event, that added strength to the longing for, and creation of the new State of Israel on 14 May 1948.

Seven and a half weeks after Jay’s surgery, he and Meridel enjoyed their first all day outing as the invited guests of the International Christian Embassy Jerusalem (ICEJ), for the unveiling of a memorial to the "Exodus 47".

Exactly 70 years later, the memorial, held in the port of Haifa Harbour, was highlighted by the unveiling of a sculpture and historic marker in memory of the courageous passengers.

This touching ceremony was attended by some of the remaining survivors, now in their late 70's to early 90's. Also attending was Natan Sharansky, a "refusenik", who in 2009 was elected to the chair of the executive of the Jewish Agency for Israel, by the Jewish Agency Board of Governors.

We must never forget the past and those who suffered and fought for the freedoms we have today!

The Story of the Miracle of Israel (1945 to 1948)

Earlier we posted the video, Faith and Fate, The Story of the Jewish People in the 20th Century. The video below is a continuation that will take you through the years following the horror of the 2nd world war and the establishment of the State of Israel.

Rabbi Berel Wein, uncovers the events that occurred after the Holocaust, leading to the establishment of the State of Israel. What was termed "Liberation" had a different meaning to the victims of Nazi terror. Suddenly, after years of horror, torture, starvation and other atrocities, the survivors of the prison camps were "set free". The problem was, what were they to do now? The sick, starving mass of humanity had no homes or family to go back to, no resources with which to move forward, in short there was no place for them to go.

It is our duty to remind ourselves of our history,
and to pass it on to the next generation...Rabbi Berel Wein

Holocaust~After Seventy Years Have We Learned Anything?

Alfred Hitchcock Documentary Shelved for 70 Years Is Revived
For seventy years a single topic has been consistently reviewed, remembered and reviled. There will always be deniers. There will always be haters. There will always be anti-Semitism.

So, one must ask, after seventy years have we learned anything at all? Are we doomed to repeat our mistakes over and over again?

Survivors of the Holocaust are slowly dying out. There are a mere handful of those who made it out of the camps to testify, while the deniers are gaining strength. Do a search on any film from the days of the Holocaust and you will find many more declaring them to be lies.

In Israel we have a concentration of survivors, who, for the most part live their lives outside the public eye. Some do speak out when approached, and some to this day refuse to come to terms with the disaster. In some families there is a combination, one who has learned to deal with it, and one who lives every single day in horror.

The Holocaust was very real. The meticulous records created by the Germans themselves have proven this beyond a doubt. The fact that the Jewish people survived, is a constant thorn in the side for the world in general. Perhaps, because as a collective they did nothing. It was left to tiny groups of people with a conscience and a sense of basic human decency to do what they could in the most difficult of situations. There are no end of stories about those who risked everything, just as there are endless tales of betrayal, thievery and cold blooded murder.

When the liberation came, many tried to return to their home countries, only to find that their homes had been "taken over" by their neighbours and they were not wanted. After years of abuse at the hands of the Germans, the Jewish people were once again placed in camps, or left to drift, with nothing but the few rags on their backs, until they could find a place, a new home to start over.

A new HBO documentary, Night Will Fall (26 January 2015), directed by André Singer and narrated by Helena Bonham Carter and Jasper Britton, tells the story of how, seventy years later, a lost documentary filmed by Alfred Hitchcock and shelved in the British archives, came back to life. As to why it was shelved in the first place, the LA Times offers a clue:

The British needed the German people to "pick up the pieces and help energize the destroyed Germany economy. They didn't want to demoralize the people further by rubbing in their guilt, and the 'German Concentration Camps Factual Survey' would not have helped restore confidence," Singer said.

There was also a concern, Singer added, that "it would provoke most sympathy for the Jewish refugees still in the camps after the war [who] wanted to go to Palestine. The British were having problems with nascent Zionism and felt the film would be unhelpful."

Below is the trailer for "Night Will Fall". Following the trailer is the original documentary footage filmed by Alfred Hitchcock~it was his only documentary film. You may find it difficult to watch, but perhaps, the original footage is what the world really needs to see.

As for the question "After Seventy Years Have We Learned Anything?", one would sincerely hope so, but looking at what is happening in the world today, the inclination is to say, sadly, No.

Where is Your Brother...Genesis 4:9

A French priest, Father Patrick Desbois  has been crisscrossing the countryside of Eastern Europe to locate the hidden mass graves of Jews killed during the Holocaust. To date, he and his team have identified 800 of an estimated 2,000 unidentified sites.

Holocaust Remembrance Day usually calls attention to the infamous death camps~Auschwitz, Treblinka, Dachau~the main centers of killing. What is often forgotten is that approximately 1.5 million Jews in the Soviet Union were slaughtered by Nazi mobile killing units, or Einsatzgruppen. Almost all those killed were civilians and in fact included people from all walks of life ranging from the intelligentsia to political commissars to gypsies. Shot to death (and sometimes buried alive), their bodies were unceremoniously piled in mass graves that have remained unmentioned and untouched for decades.

These "unknown dead" would have remained so, if not for the efforts of Father Desbois and his organization Yahad-In Unum (YIU) (founded in Paris in 2004 by leaders in the French Catholic and Jewish communities). He says, that as a clergyman, his role is not to judge...

Do watch the two clips below. The first is a report on Father Desbois, and in the second Father Debois gives a tour of his amazing exhibition "Shoah by Bullets: Mass shootings of Jews in Ukraine 1941--1944". Words cannot describe what has been uncovered...

Remembering the Past~Shaping the Future

Last year, Israel Vision created this short film. Yad Vashem is well known for it's meticulous preservation of history.

What you may not know, is that in 2006, CFYV (Christian Friends of Yad Vashem was established to help raise awareness about the Holocaust...We must never forget...

Holocaust Remembrance Day

Today as we returned from the post we heard the sirens. All over Israel, everything stops. People, stood silently at attention--as we did while facing towards the Old City of Jerusalem--with only the sirens and the knowledge from memories.

Each year there are fewer survivors to remind us about man's inhumanity to his fellow man. The stories are fewer, the memorial services shorter, the interest waning. As the survivors leave us the memory of the unspeakable horrors grows dimmer--it is easy to forget.

Throughout the world there are growing numbers who carry signs accusing Israel of apartheid, genocide, Nazi crimes and much worse. The only democratic country in the entire Middle-East where all faiths worship freely without fear, where women have equal rights, where gays have their annual parades and where Arabs have more rights than in their own countries. There are no refugee camps in Israel--they all exist in Arab countries because he Arabs refuse to let their brothers have any rights at all. Yet, all over the world people cry boycott, wipe them off the map, we need more ovens. Even Jews (at least they claim they are Jews) are part of this travesty. Evil has taken hold and the world is spinning out of control.

Be informed, take the time to learn from the past...Never Forget...

New Trends in Arab Anti-Semitism~Part I

No matter what your politics, thoughts, or feelings on the Middle-East and its long history of problems, you must first pay attention to what is actually being said in the middle-east media (in Arabic) as compared to what is being force-fed  to the west with the help of the western media (in English). You may think that blood libels and hate-spewing messages are rare in our time--you could not be more wrong.

While the civilized world is busy covering up and making excuses for a primitive, murderous culture, the world of Islam is busy trying to rewrite history with unthinkable lies and hate-based propaganda. These videos I will be posting are available on many sites--if people want to search for them. The problem is they don't--or won't--pick your choice.

MEMRI (The Middle East Research Institute TV Monitor Project) carefully tapes and translates films from TV stations all over the Arabic world. Quoted from their home page:  MEMRI explores the Middle East through the region’s media. MEMRI bridges the language gap which exists between the West and the Middle East, providing timely translations of Arabic, Persian, Urdu-Pashtu, and Turkish media, as well as original analysis of political, ideological, intellectual, social, cultural, and religious trends in the Middle East.

As you watch this clip think about the muslims  you have seen and heard on TV and elsewhere--whining and crying Islamophobia; that they are victimized for their faith--every single time things don't go exactly their way--or they are caught committing a crime.  They say they are a "Religion of Peace" (in English of course) while at the same time their colleagues are busy blowing up, stoning or beheading everyone who they happen to disagree with--or who isn't a muslim...

This is the first of two clips presented by Yigal Carmon on  28 September 2010 to the UN Human Rights Commission. His written statement to the General Assembly can be found at the link. I have not heard of any reactions--have you? Could it be the  "commission" consists mostly of countries that subscribe to this mindset?? It's a perfect example of what the "people of peace" say when they think nobody can hear (or understand) them. Be honest, what would be the reaction if this was broadcast (with English) on public TV in Australia, Britain, Canada, Europe or the USA??

At 1:43...We will treat the Jews as our enemies even if they return Palestine to us (that would be ALL of Israel)

At 1:52...As muslims our blood vengeance against them (Jews) will only subside with their annihilation, allah willing.

At 2:17 the obscene blood libel stories begin, including a trailer from a TV "drama" depicting "Jews" cutting a muslim childs throat for blood to make bread,

At 5:22 ...in 1967 Shimon Peres killed Egyptians with his own hands, and collected their blood in his iron helmet...he filled his helmet with the blood of Egyptian martyrs...in order to dry it up and keep it as a souvenir in his home...so that whoever saw it would know that Peres had fulfilled his duty towards God...(you really can't make this crap up--these guys are so serious!)

After a rambling fable about a cooked lamb that suddenly comes alive and warns mo that a Jewish woman had poisoned its leg, we see..

At 7:48...we want mothers who teach their sons jihad...

At 8:21 a beautiful little girl (maybe 3years old) obediently recites that she doesn't like the Jews...because they are apes and pigs...and goes on to say that "our God" said that in the Koran.

At 8:21 a really bad cartoon shows the Jews celebrating working on the Sabbath then being turned into pigs and apes.

The grand finale is former Lebanese minister Wiam Wahhab on Al Jadid TV (04July 2010) declaring openly and proudly...

At 10:03~In speaking of soccer and politics states: I support Germany in politics and Brazil in soccer. I like the way Brazil plays, But I like the Germans because they hate the Jews and they burned them. You need to see his smarmy laughter...
