Shana Tova~Rosh Hashanah 5775

Rosh Hashanah is the New Year on the Jewish Calendar. Tomorrow (Wednesday, 24 September 2014) at sundown, Israel begins the first night of Rosh Hashanah.

In the days leading up to Rosh Hashanah, Jews say Selichot (Prayers of Forgiveness). The Sephardic community began Selichot after midnight on the first day of the month of Elul (16 August 5774) For the Ashkenazic community Selichot started after midnight on Saturday, 21 September.

This is a time of prayers and repentence as well as a time of great celebration. On this day, Hashem makes his "assessment" of the whole world. It is said that on Rosh Hashanah, three books are opened. The righteous are immediately inscribed in the Book of Life~they are sealed "to live". Those in the middle are given ten days (until Yom Kippur) to repent, while the wicked are "erased from the Book of Life" forever. Of  course, we all pray that we will be inscribed and sealed in the Book of Life for another year!

Like all celebrations we want to have family and friends, good food and happiness on this day. We at Jerusalem Vistas / Israel Vision are praying for new, and better things to happen in 5775.

We thank you all for your ongoing prayers and support~without you we could not continue. Our wish is that all of you will be "Incribed and Sealed in the Book of Life for a Sweet, Healthy, Happy and Prosperous Year"

לשנה טובה תכתב ותחתם "Leshana tovah tikatev v’tichatem"
May You Be Inscribed and Sealed For a Good Year!

My Resting Place~18 September 2014

Click on Picture to Enlarge
Once again it seems that rockets and mortars are flying into Israel from Gaza. So much for the cease fire!

While missiles have also found their way from Syria to the Golan in the North of Israel, the IDF is there and on the alert. In an interesting item the Syrian ambassador stated on Tuesday:

“Syrian rebels linked to Al-Qaeda have seized UN weapons, uniforms and vehicles from peacekeepers in the Golan and set up a "safe zone" to wage attacks. The United Nations on Monday was forced to pull back hundreds of peacekeepers ...after Syrian rebels advanced on their positions"

Please Note: The UN troops have taken refuge~In Israel!

Does anyone see the irony in this?

No matter. Today (Thursday) in Israel, is the last day of the work week. For us, tomorrow evening is the beginning of  Shabbat. Many in North America toast TGIF~Thank God It's Friday. In Israel we say:

"Thank You Hashem for Giving Us The Shabbat!

Shabbat Shalom From Israel!

Even Though

Oh Lord
What can I say?
For thou knowest
That I am empty.

Yet what can I Do?

For I am as Dust
At the mercy of the wind.

Oh Lord!
Even though it's come to this
You still love me.

Is the UN Fair to Israel?...Think About It!

For many years the UN has been on a downhill slide towards darkness. How can an organization designed to protect the rights of all people turn the corner to become suppressors of  freedom while allowing dictators, oppressors and violators of human rights to run the show?

To quote from this informative clip by Prager University:

Israel is a vibrant democracy with full rights for women and gays, a free press and independent judiciary. You would think that the United Nations would celebrate such a country. Instead, the UN condemns Israel at every turn to the point of obsession. How did this happen?

Please listen carefully to the video below and consider this:

     ~ Why are allowing the UN to be overtaken by those who are the opposite of "good"?
     ~ Why do we stand by while every western freedom and belief is being quashed?
     ~ Why are we pouring billions of dollars into an organization that is no longer fit for purpose?

Yazidi Woman Speaks of Escape From the Brutality of ISIS

For centuries, the Yazidi tribe, a Kurdish community living in Iraq’s Nineveh province have been persecuted for their religious beliefs. For the past month, they’ve been the target of ISIS. It appears that the murderous goal of ISIS is nothing short of genocide.

A dear family friend, Christian Stephen, travelled to Iraq and viewed first hand the horrors that are taking place. In a report to RYOT, he has provided a personal insight to the barbaric brutality taking place. To quote from Christian's report for RYOT:

As ISIS kidnaps Yazidi women, mass-executes Yazidi men, and crucifies innocent Yazidi children, the Yazidi tribe tries to flee their home before it’s too late.

RYOT has reporter Christian Stephen on the ground in Iraq, where he talked with a brave Yazidi woman who escaped the militants’ clutches and who now dares to speak out about what’s happening to her people.

Do take the time to watch and listen carefully to Christian's first hand report. As we enter into Shabbat, we ask you to pray for those oppressed by ISIS. We request you to specifically remember, and pray daily for Christian Stephen, a precious young man who continues place himself in great danger in his efforts to bring the truth to light.

This is What ISIS Does~Is Doing~And Will Continue to Do~They Are Truly Evil!

This Is Israel!

When Israel "turned 60" many people had stories and articles to write. One of the best was taken from the writings of Ephraim Kishon who wrote a weekly column in Maariv, a mainstream, Hebrew-language newspaper.

Mr. Kishon, was a talented and interesting man. His life story is worth reading.

I believe that, in this article, he has truly described "Israel and Israelis"...Enjoy!

This is Israel!
This is the only country where the unemployed strike;

This is the only country where sixty year olds still hate thir tironut commander;

This is the only country where the corporals' mother has the commander's telephone number;

This is the only country that has a communications satellite, but nobody lets you finish a sentence;

This is the only country hit by missiles from Iraq, katiushas from Lebanon, suicide bombers from Gaza and rockets from Syria~and still a three-room apartment costs more than in Paris;

This is the only country where an Israeli meal is made from an Arab salad, Romanian kebabs, Iraqi pita bread and Bavarian mousse. We must like eating ant-Semitics!

This is the only country where the guy with the open and stained shirt is the honourable minister and the guy beside him wearing the suit and tie is his driver;

This is the only country where the phrase "I don't interfere" means that I want to interfere;

This is the only country where Muslems sell sacred souvenirs to Christians in exchange for bills that have the Rambam's face on them;

This is the only country where, at the age of eighteen you leave home but at twenty-four you still live with your parents;

This is the only country where people who come to your home for the first time ask you if  it's OK to go and take something from the fridge;

This is the only country where you can tell what the security situation is from the songs that are being played on the radio;

This is the only country where the rich are on the socialist left, the poor on the capitalist right and the middle-class pays for everything;

This is the only country where there is no problem to get the software that launches a space shuttle, but you have to wait a week for your washing machine to be fixed;
...And only here there's a time unit called "sometime between 11 and 6".

This is the only country where between the happiest day and the saddest day there are exactly sixty seconds;

This is the only country where most people can't explain why they live here but they have loads of reasons why they can't live elsewhere;

This is the only country where if you hate politicians, hate clerks, hate the situation, hate the taxes, hate the quality of service, and hate the weather, it must mean that you like the country...

This Is The Only Country I Could Live In!!!  It's My Country!!!

My Resting Place~04 September 2014

We Shall Not

We shall not want the things we see
The world's way , enticing me.

We have a shepherd he keeps us safe,

Our every prayer, before His face:
Renews our hope and all our rest
To walk the path He chose the best.

His hand to guide we want no less.

Do all we can enjoy our walk
The Great I Am is all we've got.

We shall not want the things we see
The worlds' way enticing me
